Using Ebates To Save Money On In-Store Pickup

Despite all the benefits of online shopping, there are occasional drawbacks that may lead you to actually get in your car and drive down to your local store to pick up a coveted item.

Maybe you just can’t wait to get your hands on it, or perhaps you really don’t want to pay for shipping. Whatever the reason, there are plenty of times when it’s just easier to buy an item in a brick and mortar store.

If you already know what item you are going to purchase and you do not have any in store coupons to use, you can use a little trick to save some extra money on your in store purchase. You can use Ebates to get cash back on your in store pickup order at select stores.

All you have to do is go to, click on the tracking link for the store you are shopping at, make your purchase online and select in-store pickup at checkout. You will pay for your purchase online and then it will be ready when you get to the store. All you have to do is pick up the order and watch the cash back roll in.

The cash back percentage through Ebates might not be all that earth-shattering at the stores that offer in-store pickup. For example, Best Buy only offers 1% cash back. However, if you are purchasing big-ticket items, the savings can really add up.

Some of the stores that offer in-store pickup that you can shop at through Ebates are: Best Buy, Home Depot, Walmart, and the The Container Store. Check out this article from the Ebates blog for more information.

There is also a list of store exceptions that can be found here. You will see that certain stores do not give cash back for purchases picked up at the store.  At the bottom it says under “Other Exceptions,” “In-Store Pickup: purchases made online but picked up at the merchant store do not qualify to earn cash back.” I’m not exactly sure why it says this because the Ebates blog itself confirms that select stores do offer cash back for in-store pickup.

I guess you should just be aware that Ebates could possibly deny cash back for in-store purchases, but I know from experience that it does work at certain stores. Regardless, you have nothing to lose by trying it if you have your heart set on getting an item in the store.

So just remember the next time you need to purchase a big-ticket item at a physical store, shopping through Ebates and selecting in-store pickup can save you some extra money. Another benefit of in-store pickup is that you the item will be ready and waiting for you when you get to the store, so you will a little extra time as well.

Holiday Shopping Deals: The Best Is Yet to Come

Do not fret if you missed out on Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals. Retail analysts have said the best deals are yet to come. Discounts will increase the week before Christmas. You can consider the Black Friday promotions to be a baseline for what is to come.

The best holiday shopping deals are never early in the season, and things tend to get cheaper as the holidays get closer. The last few days before Christmas are when the best deals come around.

You may be able to find discounts of 40 to 70% on certain items because retailers make a final push to sell popular gift items. They know these items won’t sell as well after the holidays, so there is pressure to get them off the shelves before the holidays end.

Retail analysts believe that discounts may get broader and cover more items, with more storewide sales as well. You may also see more promotions along the lines of buy two get one free.

There are certain items that will be more discounted than others, so it pays to wait to buy some items over others. You can generally expect better prices in the coming weeks if you wait a little longer to buy toys, electronics, and clothing and accessories.

It is not unusual to see all electronics on sale, including the most desirable products the week before Christmas, which is not what happens on Black Friday. Flatscreen TV prices have fallen and other items such as digital cameras and tablets will also be included in sales.

Even Consumer Reports warned Black Friday shoppers that some of its recommended items such as TVs, cameras, and laptops would be priced at least 5% lower during the weeks following Black Friday.

Toys are another sector that will be taking a hit on prices. Since there isn’t really a hot new product to carry the industry, prices will be cut to boost sales.

There will also be massive discounts on clothing, up to 70% as it gets closer to Christmas. Since apparel is seasonal, discounts will be steep, especially when consumer spending is low. The clothing and accessories industry is not expected to do as well this year as it did last year, so expect to see some major sales.

Some other sectors to look for major discounts are books, music, and sporting goods. These sectors are forecasted to have lower sales growth than last year, so retailers will be offering incentives for shoppers to spend more in these areas.

The one thing you may not be seeing any major discounts on are luxury items. Sales on luxury items are expected to be better than last year, so there will be less discounts.

One thing to be aware of is that some of the items you may be waiting to purchase might not be in stock if you wait too long. It can be difficult to find the items you want in stock in the final days of Christmas because retailers are being much more careful with inventory compared to last year.

The best thing to do if you want to wait to buy something is to ask a salesperson how well the item is stocked. That will give you an idea of how long you can wait to buy it.

What Is Ebates?

What is Ebates and is it really legit? The short answer is that it is a cash back shopping site, and it is totally legit. If you have never heard of cash back shopping before, you might need a better explanation.

Cash back shopping just means that Ebates gets a commission for referring customers to merchants, and Ebates shares part of the commission with the shopper. It might seem like a scam, but it is a completely legitimate process that benefits all parties.

The merchants that partner with Ebates benefit from the arrangement because customers get an extra incentive to shop at their stores. The cash back shared with shoppers is usually a small percentage of the sale, so merchants still have room to profit.

Ebates benefits because they keep part of the commission, and the customer benefits by getting cash back just for doing the shopping they were going to do anyway. There are over 1,200 stores on Ebates, including most well known stores, so you should be able to do all your shopping through them.

I have been using Ebates since 2008 and have saved tons of money over the years. Every store has a different cash back percentage, usually ranging from 1% to 25%. Around the holidays, a lot of stores offer double cash back.

It is completely free to use, there are no sign up fees or any charges for using the site. When you sign up, they just ask for your email address. It only takes a few minutes. You also get to pick a sign up bonus, either a $10 gift card or $5 cash.  You can sign up by clicking the form below:

What Is Ebates?

Once you get signed up and are ready to shop, all you have to do is click through to the store you are shopping at from the Ebates site. This activates a tracking link, which tells the merchant that Ebates sent you.

That way they get credit for the sale and get the commission. Without clicking that tracking link, the merchant will have no way of knowing to pay the commission, so you will not get your cash back.

An important thing to know about these tracking links is that they are posted on tons of sites all over the internet. If you are doing research before you shop, you may inadvertantly click on a tracking link from a different site. This can interefere with the Ebates tracking link and prevent you from getting your cash back.

For example, let’s say you are interested in bying a netbook computer. You find a website that compares a bunch of different kinds of netbooks, and there are links to view the product details. You click on one of those links, and it takes you to a store where you can buy the netbook. Chances are, that was a tracking link and it puts a cookie into your web browser so the store knows that site referred you.

If you want to use Ebates successfully, it is a good idea to clear your cookies first in order to make sure that the tracking link works. Just a suggestion to be extra careful.

You can track your cash back earnings by signing into your account. Payments are made every 3 months, and you can choose to be paid through PayPal or by check.

Another cool thing about Ebates is that they give you referral bonuses for recommending the site to your friends and family. You get $5 any time somebody signs up through your referral link and spends at least $25 at a partner store for cash back. They also have bonuses every quarter if you hit a certain number of referrals. If you get 5 friends to sign up, you get $75, and if you get 10 friends to sign up, you get $150. The bonus keeps going up the more people you get to sign up.

If you still haven’t signed up, what are you waiting for?  Click the form below to get started:
